“Here’s some keys we probably shouldn’t have kept... you want ‘em?”
I mean, su re? It’ll make for a good Oppo post I guess.
Ooh, look, keys to a 1995 Taurus!
And check out the buttons on this ‘99 Explorer fob. Liftgate AND glass poppers!!
Eat your heart out, DeMuro.

Hand these out instead of candy on Halloween. Best. Treat. Ever.
Plus, you’ll know if you’ve found a potential Jalop kid to take as a padawan. Sh e’ll be the kid that doesn’t throw it back at you.

And if they have a friend or relative at the DMV to trace the vin on the tag ... FREE CAR!

No, we could just use more for parts to fix remotes here at work.

I’ll take a couple of the
Explorer key fobs
. I’m serious as well. My wife’s truck only came with one, and it has a broken key ring.

Good point. You may have to pass them out with disclaimers so you don’t become an accessory to any such ownership transitions.

We will take any Hyundai and Subaru ones you have too, if you do.
![]() 10/03/2018 at 19:42 |

um.. so can I ask why all those owners aren’t a little peeved right now?
![]() 10/03/2018 at 19:44 |

Think you can get ‘em all in one night?
![]() 10/03/2018 at 19:47 |

Ahhh gotcha. Email sent.

Nada. One mitsubishi key, two Toyota, the rest are GM/Ford/FCA.

I can check in the morning and see which ones are for Explorers... I’ll let you know what I have.

99.9% probably went to auction, and these are the second/third/fifth sets of keys.

As a former parts guy at a dealer, this does not surprise me at all.

Hang them on a Christmas tree in the shop :D

Things like this is why I only have 1 key and fob for my car, but I see you do not have any for a Hyundai.

This is way more common than I ever realized. Sometimes the proper organization system isn’t used and both keys end up going on the board (instead of keeping one in the final sales packet) and basically if you don’t ask for the 2nd key you aren’t getting it...
One of the dealers I work for actually takes all the extra keys they find and sells them to the local locksmith every 6 months or so...

I’d be willing to buy a Toyota fob if you have one.

Can’t you reprogram them for your own car?

How are these not on eBay already?
![]() 10/03/2018 at 21:20 |

one of these could be the key to your heart

I was thinking all those cars sold with one key then the new owner has to go to the dealer to get a second chip key and for for several hundred dollars.

It was me!

We do the same. Goes into our Parts Fridge Fund.

Are you trustworthy? How easy would it be to find the VIN/buyer/current address of those vehicles? Not that you’d do that, but someone could in theory ...

I have one from a 2002 Sienna....

I think the only one I have is that dual liftgate one pictured above. The other two are from cars, and do not have hatch buttons.
![]() 10/04/2018 at 09:31 |

Yes.
If I wanted to I could have one of the office employees run the VINs through the DMV to see if there’s a current owner.
Anyone could, but they would need the WHOLE VIN, not just the last 8 scribbled on the tags that I already threw away.
The only way to get the whole VIN from the last 8 is to use a dealership’s software.
![]() 10/04/2018 at 09:55 |

Ah, smart that you only put the partial VIN on them.

Ok. Thanks though. I’ll check my local pick and pull. They have key fobs as well
